Do I need to waterproof my rooftop tent?

Do I need to waterproof my rooftop tent?

Short Answer: No. Here's Why.

If you're wondering whether you need to waterproof your rooftop tent before heading off on your first trip—the answer is no.

Every Outback Tourer rooftop tent comes ready for the elements straight from the factory. Our tents are built to handle harsh weather conditions across Australia and are made using:

Waterproof Canvas

We use high-quality 300gsm or 380gsm canvas across all our tents. This fabric is:

  • Fully waterproof

  • UV resistant

  • Breathable

  • Built to withstand wind, rain, and extended exposure to the elements

Seam-Sealed from Factory

The seams are tape sealed during manufacturing, so you don’t need to treat them with sprays, waxes, or aftermarket sealants. No water should leak through the joins—even in heavy downpours.

Ready to Use – No Prepping Required

Unlike some tents that require a “weathering in” process, Outback Tourer tents are ready to go right out of the box. You don’t need to wet them, reproof them, or apply anything before use.
